Ghostbusters
Tribute by Brian Clay
Without
doubt that winter day I wandered into my local cinema to see a Ghost film
changed my life. I was still at school and living in the Uk had not heard
of Bill Murray or indeed any of the cast. I'd heard the song and watched
the music video and so I thought it would be fun to go and see. My school
started it's holidays usually a day or so before the rest in my area so
I had the cinema almost to myself. My popcorn in one hand and a drink in
the other, I was in for a treat.
I
came out stunned and suprised at what an excellent film I'd just seen.
The effects, the comedy, even the outragious story was superb. Suddenly
I had a new set of comedy hero's. I have now watched Ghostbusters 137 times.
You might think this is going a little over the top but I still find the
same jokes funny and it seems fresh everytime. I must admit my parents
were overjoyed when I moved out as I could do the script to the whole film
and this my mother said was annoying, I can't see why...
And just when I thought life couldn't get any better the sequel came
along, great joy.
From
a chance visit to the Gaumont as it was called then. I was won over by
the comedy of Bill, Harold and Dan. Dan has gone on to do some great things
which no doubt will form another page on this ever growing site, but here
I would like to mention Bill Murray.
It seems that Bill doesn't like to churn out loads of films, but the
ones he does have a wonderful story and he can play the hated and loved
with such ease. I think Groundhog Day has to be one of his best. The totally
puzzled way he had to sort his life out was really funny and quite touching
in places. Every Christmas I get out Scrooged again and still it brings
a tear to my eye as he pick up the little boy at the end and he talks.
A lot of people I know don't like this film very much but the comedy is
subtle to the bizarre. The toaster in the face is a classic.
So if you're a Bill Murray or Ghostbusters fan drop me a line and we'll
have a chat over good times.
